Paul Q, born Paul Quintin Dirksen, is a celebrated South African singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and storyteller whose distinctive musical style seamlessly blends elements of Afro-Folk, alternative Folk-Rock, and Fusion. Paul’s musical journey began as a member of the dynamic cover duo The Flood, where he gained significant recognition through airplay on Radio 5 and performances on SABC TV. These early experiences opened doors to South Africa’s vibrant live performance circuit, allowing him to connect with audiences far and wide. His collaborations with a talented array of local musicians, including the late Richard Picket on drums, Robin Auld, Robin Gallagher, John Mair, and Gary Deacon on bass, enriched his musical evolution during this formative period.

The early works of Paul Q, produced by the renowned Murray Anderson at Milestone Studios, showcased the unmistakable energy of 1980s South African rock. Songs like “Stopping at the Wrong Door,” “Younger Years,” and “The White Dove” not only resonated with listeners but also solidified his presence in the industry, with “The White Dove” earning a spot on televised broadcasts.
